What you can expect from the town of Opatija

Opatija is a coastal town on the northern part of the Croatian coast, just about 15 kilometers from the much larger city of Rijeka. The town sits at the foot of the Učka mountain and has incredible views of Krk and Cres island. Even though it’s relatively small, it has been one of the most popular Croatian destinations ever since the 19th century, when it was known as a health resort.

While here, make sure to explore the Franz Joseph I Promenade, locally known as Lungomare, that dates all the way back to 1889. The coastal promenade connects the fishing village of Volosko with Opatija and further on with tiny picturesque towns of Ičići, Ika and Lovran.
