Location

Surroundings

Romantic bell towers, pleasant climate, beautiful beaches, dense pine forests and Komrcar, the most beautiful forest park on the Adriatic coast, are only some of the attractions Rab has to offer. One of the most wooded Adriatic islands with as many as three hundred water sources and countless native and cultivated plants is a veritable garden. And that is not all; there are no poisonous snakes on the island! One of the island’s most famous attractions is certainly the town of Rab, a place of notable beauty. Medieval walls encircle the whole of the city, protecting its churches, palaces and impressive Romanesque bell towers, making the town resemble a huge sailboat with four masts. There are many myths and stories of the island and the streets and squares in Rab keep its legends alive. Especially loved is the one about chaste Draga and passionate Kalifront immortalized in the sculptures by the fountain on St. Christopher Square. In the last quarter-century every summer, June through September, the Holy Cross Church in Rab is a venue for a classical music festival called Rab Music Evenings. Rab is also home to The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral, one of the most valuable Romanesque churches in Croatia, and many other precious monuments testifying to its long history and rich heritage. Owing to its amiable climate and a truly unique feel, the island has a long tradition in hospitality. In 1889 Municipal Council proclaimed Rab a seaside health resort. A new and vitally important stimulus to Rab tourism and its orientation was given in the past by Edward VIII, King of Great Britain. Reportedly, during his stay in Rab with his sweetheart, the American Wallis Simpson, he was the first person to bathe naked there starting Rab’s nudism tradition. There is no need to point out why tourism has developed here - Rab has been simply predestined for it!
